For this unique 45" vinyl release for the Hollywood Tonight single, Michael's Estate did not want to use any photography of him. We also wanted to give the cover a Hollywood feel without running into rights issues associated with using overt representations of the Hollywood sign or the Walk of Fame. The 60+ Years Project was created by multi-disciplinary designer Zara Arshad to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Zara invited designers from around the world to submit artwork on a mini protest board to exercise their right to free speech and self-expression. My submission was inspired by the first statement in the preamble of the Declaration, which states that it is based on "a foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world." Using this overarching concept, I created a design that acknowledges the human rights violations that have taken place, but focuses on hope for the future. The background image of a mushroom cloud alludes to the damage we have done to one another, while the silhouetted shapes of a man and woman fitted together illustrate that harmony is attainable. The intertwined pathways suggest that multiple roads can be taken to achieve our goals, while the blossoming flower bud symbol represents growth and possibilities. The color palette and graphic style is a nod to design of the '60s — the time of the civil rights movement in the U.S.
